What began as a possibility has rejuvenated Caring Connection Children’s Center into a new-found LOVE! It’s all about our Nature Playscape or Outdoor Classroom! We have ditched the metal and temporary plastic and instead have incorporated a growing and changing, natural play space, into the yards of both locations.
At the time of this writing, I can tell you what the yards are comprised of…but the truth is that they may have changed by the time you read this!
We have a dry creek bed at our Midtown campus that inspires so much discovery, team working and play. We can add a hose with running water or watch as the children make up their own ideas for how to play and learn in the creek.
In our West Sac campus we have a beach complete with large driftwood, buried shells and sea glass. Flanked by banana trees and beach grass, this natural pristine space is a treat for children. Add water, during warm months and, voila…the beach!
At both campuses there is a Mudpie Kitchen, where pots and pans come together with leaves, bark and dirt and inevitably become a cupcake or an ice cream cone offered up to teachers and children.
At Midtown, we offer a Banging Post for percussion in the yard, and a mirrored garden wall
In West Sacramento, our log jump circle (for gross motor development) and a natural social circle leads directly to the sound garden fence.
West Sac Campus boasts a slide hill and a climbing island to break up the cement pavement . And a grassy meadow creates a soft space for babies and toddlers.
Midtown also has a climbing hill and a sensory garden for herbal additions to our fabulous menu of pure enjoyment. Midtown still has a large climbing structure, but we have added a decomposed granite trail all around it and once water is added, this is a summer day’s highlight.
See our blog and watch what happens next in our Nature Playscapes. Where cut branches become a new part of the playground, where seasons do exist and create new environments for learning, play and pure joy!
